Social Networking Privacy Challenges
Social Media and Networking – Privacy Challenges
Social Media is no longer a luxury: Social media is now a necessary platform that enhances a business person or company capacity to excel in any market. Social Media a.k.a. Twitter, Facebook and others served as a powerful tool that allowed the people of Egypt to maintain a voice when silenced by the government then in power.
With 55 percent of online Americans registered on Facebook, any reservations towards using social networking for business purposes seem misplaced. Organizations who have not yet ventured into the world of social networking may be missing out on sizeable business opportunities. Insurance companies and financial institutions must be in the Social Media space to better serve their customers.
E-mail and Protected Health Information-PHI
- The Radicati Group estimated the number of emails sent per day is around 294 billion and growing. Around 90% of these millions and trillions of messages are spam and viruses. The genuine emails are sent by around 1.9 billion email users.
- Mobile messages amount to over 4.1 billion SMS messages being sent daily.
- Instant messaging clocks in at 13.9 billion instant messages being sent every day worldwide according to International Data Corporation.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) implemented new rules for the healthcare world. Mandating compliance with its Privacy and Security Rules reinforces the fact that the federal government is committed to enforcing patients’ rights and Protected Health Information.
